Decision Fatigue (and Why You Feel So Overwhelmed)

May 4, 2026

A small note before we begin—

I haven’t shared something new in a couple of weeks. Not because there isn’t more to say, but because I’ve been sitting with something that feels more essential.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much of modern life is just… deciding.

What to eat, when to eat, whether you should be fasting or not.
Which supplements. Which routine. Coffee or matcha.

It’s endless.

And what I see—again and again—is not a lack of discipline.
It’s exhaustion.

There’s a name for this: decision fatigue.

Ayurveda understood this long before it had a name

From an Ayurvedic perspective, every decision you make uses prana—your vital energy.

When that energy is constantly spent on small, repetitive choices, there’s very little left for clarity, digestion, or healing.

So what happens is predictable:

You feel scattered. You second-guess yourself.
You start something, then stop.
You look for the right answer… and end up doing nothing.

This is where Ayurveda is quietly radical

Instead of offering more choices, it offers structure.

In Ayurveda, we call this dinacharya—a daily rhythm that removes the need to constantly decide.

You wake at a similar time.
You eat in a consistent way.
You wind down at night with intention.

Not because routine is rigid—but because it’s freeing.

When parts of your day are already decided, your mind settles. Your digestion improves. Your energy stabilizes.

You stop negotiating with yourself all day long.

And that’s where clarity begins.

You don’t need a better plan

I often tell clients:

You don’t need a better plan. You need fewer decisions.

We tend to think transformation comes from doing more—more supplements, more protocols, more information.

But more often, it comes from doing the same simple things… consistently.

It may sound boring. It is a little boring.

And that’s the point.

Because healing comes from stability, not stimulation.

What if it doesn’t have to be perfect?

There’s also something else worth considering:

What if your routine isn’t something you have to get perfect?
What if it’s just something you’re trying—for now?

That shift alone can soften a lot of pressure.

So if things have felt overwhelming lately, simplify:

Choose a few meals you return to.
Create a small, repeatable morning rhythm.
Go to bed at the same time for a week.

Let some decisions be… already made.

Not forever. Just for now.

Because often, the most supportive practice is the one that removes friction from your life—not adds to it.
